Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Denis Zvizdic, said on Friday that the result of the referendum in the UK should not discourage the commitment of BiH to continue and accelerate the path towards EU Integration, because that is what the majority of citizens, 76 percent, demands.

He added that this path is this generation’s consignment to future generations. British citizens, said Zvizdic, estimate that their country will have a better future outside the block of 28 countries and were entitled under the regulations of Lisbon Treaty to make that assessment.

“Regardless of the Brexit, the BiH has no alternative for the foreseeable future but to become a member of the European Union where we belong”, Zvizdić stressed.

He said that the strength of the EU lies in the fact that it binds economic, security and geopolitical interests, on a voluntary basis. Zvizdic emphasized that countries do not enter the EU overnight, it is impossible to get out of it overnight. Also, he emphasized that the commitment of BiH is to be part of the European Union.

“This desire is motivated by facts, not emotions, but the facts are that the EU economy is number one in the world that has the society of knowledge and innovation, and that in any other place on the planet, people, on average, do not live better”, Zvizdić said.

Member of BiH Presidency from Croat nation, Dragan Covic, said to media that he is deeply convinced that “for all in BiH the EU remains a common strategic objective around which there is a consensus of all three nations”. Only this idea gives to BiH the opportunity to work together and to bring a new quality in social and political life of the country.

“By submitting the application for membership as a state, we have shown that we can be operational and fulfill the accession commitments, regardless of the difficulties, and again strengthen our credibility and confidence in the eyes of the EU. Especially significant in all of this is that, with unity and the right approach, we can fulfill all what is required of us”, Covic pointed out.

RS President,Milorad Dodik, said in his comment of Brexit that the UK referendum is the result of a new reality, which leads to a new Europe, but BiH remains in the process of joining the EU whatever it might be in the future.

“We remain in the EU accession process whatever it might be in the future, but with the increased needs to protect our interests and, in this regard, to be visible as RS in the EU eyes and, like that, affirmed in the process”, Dodik said.

Dodik said to media in Banja Luka that he will see how things will develop, but in any case there are strong needs for various types of people’s opinion expression in RS.

“We have been sharply disabled several times to do so; the affirmation of the referendum as a final decision on important national issues has acquired additional strength in this way and will serve RS in the future”, Dodik stressed.

Other BiH high ranked politicians are also united in the opinion that the country must continue the approach process but there still are some voices which are asking the very important question: is the Great Britain – Germany initiative for BiH still valid? This initiative was the basis for a new wind to blow in BiH and triggered many important processes on the BiH EU path.
