The reform success of Serbia is very important for the United States while Serbia is the key for the stability of the whole Western Balkans, US Vice-President Joe Biden after meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic in Washington on Tuesday. Biden has praised economic measures of Vucic’s cabinet as well as Serbian coping with corruption, Tanjug news agency reported.

Biden and Vucic have also discussed brothers Bitici case, unresolved murder of American citizens during 1990 conflict in Serbia.

“The significant interest of American companies to invest in Serbia shows that we are on the right path”, premier Vucic said in Washington.

He said he was satisfied with the “level of respect” of Serbia in US, but added that much more should be done in order to “reach American standards”.

Vucic also met the representatives of the World Bank. According to PM, WB was satisfied with the results of Serbia so far. He explained that there were no “opened questions” nor “different opinions” between Serbia and WB. However, Serbia would have to continue its “hard work”, premier underlined.

Ellen Goldstein WB Western Balkans director said, as Vucic revealed, that Serbia would become “decisively the best country in the region” if government keep with reforms regardless of difficult circumstances.

World Bank would be ready to assist in resolving refugees crisis in Serbia, but European Union should first adopt common strategy, Goldstein was quoted as saying.

During his official visit to Washington, Vucic will also meet State Secretary John Kerry. He expects Kerry would promise further American support to Serbia.
