Belgian swimmer wins the Ohrid marathon

“The swimming marathon” was held yesterday in the Ohrid Lake, with the participation of 22 swimmers from 14 countries. The marathon started near the monastery of Saint Naum and ended near the town of Ohrid.

Swimmer Brian Rikeman from Belgium is this edition’s winner of the 28th edition of the marathon, a sport event which is organized by the World Swimming Federation. Rikeman swam for 30 kilometers, which lasted 5 hours, 41 minutes and 47 seconds. The second place belonged to Evgenij Pop Acev from Ohrid and the third place belonged to Joanes Edel from France.

In the women category, the fastest swimmer was Silvie Robarova from the Czech Republic, while the second place belonged to Pihar Geiho from Argentina. The president of the country, George Ivanov participated in the distribution of prizes.

The Ohrid swimming marathon has been organized since 1992, while the first official marathon in Ohrid has been held in 1962 and its length was 36 kilometers. /ibna/
