The refugee crisis that the European country and especially the Balkan countries are facing, have dominated the intensive meetings of the EU Commissioner for Emigration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Dimitris Avramopulos held on Friday in Tirana.
Following the meetings with PM Rama, president Nishani, Foreign Minister Bushati and Interior minister, Tahiri, the EU commissioner delivered a press conference.
Minister Tahiri said that the issue of refugees is a humanitarian emergency.
“Albania is ready to carry out its obligations in the framework of a general European plan”, Tahiri said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Avramopulos praised Albania’s work in what he considered a joint plan of the Balkan Route for refugees. He admitted that the EU was not prepared to face such situation. Mr. Avramopulos guaranteed that Albania will not be on its own in this issue.
“I have welcomed the news that the government has prepared an emergency plan. The European Commission will offer its support”, said Mr. Avramopulos.
Mr. Avramopulos and Mr. Tahiri also praised the growing cooperation against terrorism and organized crime.
“We have faith that Albania will continue on this path. Efforts must also continue for the reform in the justice system”, Avramopulos said. /ibna/
