Certain is considered the candidacy of the Greek Commissioner in the EU, Dimitris Avramopoulos for the High State Office of the President of the Republic, with a transcendent agreement that will introduce the country into a new historical period. According to information from “To Vima”, Avramopoulos will be irrevocably the proposal of SYRIZA’s and the Independent Greeks Parliamentary Group for the Presidency of the Republic.

Prime Minister and president of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras and Defence Minister and President of ANEL Panos Kammenos agreed to the person who will succeed Karolos Papoulias at the Presidential Palace. The vote for the new President will probably take place on Friday, February 13, in the first vote in which 180 votes in favor are required.

The decision of the two government partners on a center-right president creates a major issue in the New Democracy, to the Parliamentary Group of which is divided on the stance the party must keep. Opposition leader Antonis Samaras waits for the government to officially open its cards.

The decision, however, has been taken and Avramopoulos, a personality with high popularity throughout, has “locked”, despite the scenarios and background discussions for the nomination of former Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis, who in any case remains unmoved from the “no ” he had expressed for a long time now. Indeed, the environment of Karamanlis denied that there was a direct or indirect approach from the side of the coalition government.

In essence, the country, as was previously announced from the Step on January 18, is facing a historic political compromise regarding the Presidency of the Republic.

At the same time the movement of Avramopoulos in Athens from Brussels paves the way for SYRIZA to appoint a person of its choice at the College of Commissioners, such as Giannis Milios, who praised the EU commissioner, saying that “he has a consensual profile and high prestige”.
