Police of Kosovo have arrested the imam of the El-Kuddus mosque in Gjilan, Zekerija Qazimi, who is suspected to be one of the main mentors of Jihad.
Authorities have also arrested a person initialed L.K from the village of Polac in Skenderaj, on suspicion of threatening constitutional order and security in Kosovo.
Both of these persons are suspected of recruiting for the purpose of terrorism, participation in terrorist groups, incitement of national racial, religious or ethnic hate.
According to police, as a result of the investigations which lasted several months in relation to the case of the arrest of four people in the month of June 2014 in Kacanik on the same charges, today, authorities have conducted another operation in Gjilan and Skenderaj.
Imam Qazimi was not at his home, but police managed to find him in a mountain near his home, while the second suspect was found at his home.
Special Prosecution pronounced to the two suspects a 48 hour arrest. Investigations on this case continue.
The arrests in question have been commented by the renowned Kosovar security expert, Nuredin Ibishi.
According to him, institutions of the country have been aware of the existence of Islamic radicalism, but they have not acted on this without international pressure.
“The government has been passive for seven years. It’s a good thing that this was done, but it cannot only be to keep up appearances in the eyes of international community”, said Ibishi.
Ibishi said that it’s the responsibility of the Islamic Community of Kosovo for not preventing the propaganda made by irresponsible imams. /ibna/
