As of yesterday (17.06), citizens from FYR Macedonia and Albania will be able to travel on the ferry line linking Ohrid to Pogradec.
Present in the departure of the first ferry from Ohrid were the mayors of the two respective cities, the two ministers of transport and other public personalities.
Minister of Transport and Communication of FYROM, Mile Janakievski said that this line is finally operational following several years of efforts from both countries and governments. “This is an additional factor indicating the good neighboring relations between Macedonia and Albania and it will help to promote the values of Ohrid and Pogradec for tourism”, declared Janakievski.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Albania, Edmond Haxhinasto said that this line improves free movement and communication between the citizens of both countries. The ceremony was also greeted by the mayor of Ohrid, Nikola Bakraceski and mayor of Pogradec, Artan Shkembi.
This ferry line will be a seasonal line which will be operational from June to September 15.
Meanwhile, commune of Struga has reacted by saying that the government has left this commune out of this water link with Albania.
“The diversion of this line, by not including Struga is also a message which indicates that the Albanian community of Struga is being neglected by the current government. When it comes to this, Albanian party in power is certainly to be blamed for this”, said the mayor of Struga. /ibna/
