Albanian authorities have demanded from United Kingdom to speed up the procedures of the examination of asylum claims in order to stop all abusive asylum seekers.

Albanian Minister of Interior, Saimir Tahiri has met in London with the British Home Secretary, Theresa May,  with whom he has talked about strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fight against organized crime, illicit traffics and terrorism.

The two sides also talked about the issue of asylum seekers. The British member of the government said that the fight against human trafficking is important. “We must collaborate more in the fight against human traffic and illegal asylum seekers “, Home Secretary May said.

The Albanian counterpart Tahiri promised Albanian’s commitment for the implementation of the agreements for the readmission of Albanian citizens who are repatriated from Great Britain.

In this context, Tahiri and May signed a memorandum of cooperation against the traffic of human beings.

A significant number of Albanians have been recently returning from the UK, due to their asylum application refusal.

Several years ago, there have been many Albanian citizens who have been granted asylum. They have declared that their return in Albania is impossible for political reasons or conflicts that could put their life in danger. /ibna/
