Brussels, June 17, 2013
Two senior officials of the European Union, enlargement commissioner Stefan Fule and baroness Catherine Ashton have launched a joint declaration on the occasion of June 23 elections in Albania.
In their declaration, they say that these elections are a test for the functioning of democratic institutions and a proof toward European Union, adding that political leaders must find a solution to resolve the crisis at the Central Election Commission by filling the vacancies.
Fule and Ashton declared that they’re monitoring the pre electoral situation, demanding for the elections to comply with international standards and recommendations of OSCE-ODIHR.
They also added that political leaders have a joint responsibility to strengthen public trust on the electoral process in order to offer the necessary conditions for the elections to be accepted by everyone. /ibna/
