November 17, 2017 saw the opening of an exhibition consisting of artwork of Jews who had passed from Cyprus between the years 1946 – 1949. The said event took place at the Eretz Israel Museum in Tel Aviv.
The whole project was put under the auspices of the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Tel Aviv, while it has been symbolically sponsored by the Government of Cyprus. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Ambassador of Cyprus in Israel, Ms T.S. Shambos and by the Mayor of Tel Aviv – Yafo Mr Ron Huldai. The event took place in the presence of a plethora of guests from the diplomatic, political, economic and commercial circles of the country. Among those present was the Honorary Consul of Israel in Cyprus Mr Adamos Varnava, with his wife Lina Papavassiliou – Varnava, the former Ambassador of Israel in Cyprus Yael Ravia-Zadok as well as the Ambassador – Designate of Israel to Cyprus Shmuel Revel.
The above exhibition, which highlights once again the historic link between the Cypriots and the Jews after the Holocaust, was curated by Sigal Harari (wife of the former Ambassador of Israel in Cyprus, Michael Harari), while its aim was to present an extensive artistic collection portraying the lives of the 54000 survivors of the Holocaust which resided in the British camps in Cyprus during the period 1946 – 1949./IBNA
