The European Commission has approved today the text of the Stabilization and Association Agreement between the European Union and Kosovo.
With this step, the European Commission has finalized its procedure, which will now be sent to the Council.
After the 28 member countries of the Council offer their approval, the EU head of diplomacy, Federica Mogherini, is expected to sign the agreement on behalf of the EU, while as far as the government of Kosovo is concerned, it’s up to the latter to decide who will sign.
After the approval of the proposal, the head of EU Office to Kosovo, Samuel Zbogar said that this is an important step in the relations between Kosovo and the EU.
“Today’s approval by the European Commission marks an important step in the relations between the European Union and Kosovo. Now, the EU Council and European Parliament must agree before the agreements is signed and takes effect in 2016”, Zbogar declared.
He said that once it comes into effect, SAA will be the first contractual relation between EU and Kosovo.
“Such agreement will strengthen the position of Kosovo as part of EU policies on Western Balkan. The Stabilization and Association Agreement is a comprehensive agreement that covers a wide range of sectors such as justice, trade, education, employment, energy, environment and a number of policies in other domains”, he said. /ibna/
