Anastasiades returns from UAE with hopes for investments

President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades concluded his official visit to the United Arab Emirates and returned today to Cyprus, with high hopes for foreign investments to boost the island’s struggling economy.

Anastasiades, who was accompanied during his visit by Finance Minister Haris Georgiades, Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides, Under Secretary to the President Constantinos Petrides and other officials, had a series of meetings with state officials as well as with investment funds and businessmen in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

During his visit, the President of the Republic met with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi in the framework of which a bilateral Agreement and three Memoranda of Understanding were signed.

On Wednesday he addressed a business forum in Dubai, attended by a large number of businessmen from Cyprus and the Emirates. President Anastasiades and the Cypriot delegation return to Cyprus tomorrow.

Government sources said to IBNA, that officials from UAE in Cyprus in next few days to discuss future investments.

Meetings in Spain and Dubai

Meantime, investment and business opportunities in Cyprus were highlighted by a delegation of the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency (CIPA) at two meetings that took place recently in Spain and Dubai.

President of CIPA Christodoulos Angastiniotis heading a CIPA delegation, participated in the Global Russia Business Meeting, which took place in Spain and in the Annual Investment Meeting in Dubai.

According to a CIPA press release, the Global Russia Business Meeting was attended by business and government officials from Russia and other countries, including the USA, China, Oman, Egypt, Malaysia, Thailand, Germany and Switzerland.

During the meeting, Angastiniotis referred to Cyprus` comparative advantages as an investment and business destination as well as to recent positive developments in the Cyprus economy. He expressed the conviction that Cyprus will soon be able to return to growth.

The Annual Investment Meeting, which took place 8-10 of April in Dubai, was attended by investors from all over the world. Cyprus` investment opportunities were presented at the Meeting, while a CIPA delegation held a series of meetings with foreign investors, whom they presented current investment opportunities in Cyprus.
