President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades’ open heart surgery was successfully completed, announced late Tuesday Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides.
The President, 68, underwent surgery to repair a mitral valve at Mount Sinai hospital in Manhattan, New York.
Christodoulides said in a Twitter post “Repair surgery on President Anastasiades was successfully completed”.
He wished the President a speedy recovery and that he returns home soon.
The CNA correspondent in New York reported that the operation was of a corrective nature and the valve was not replaced. The four-hour long procedure was performed by renowned heart surgeon David Adams in the presence of the President’s doctors, Savvas Kadis and Marinos Sotiriou
