Anastasiades calls for a de-escalation

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, today called for the lowering the tones and to not follow the course set by Turkey.

Speaking to reporters, attending the General Assembly of the Union of Municipalities, and to a journalist’s remark that there is an escalation from Turkey, the President of the Republic said that “what I would like to ask is to lower the tones, not to follow the path that Turkey is pursuing; that is, that of the provocation, and of course, without neglecting its planning, to take the necessary measures within the framework of international legality”.

Asked whether this will always be done in consultation with Athens, President Anastasiades said: “certainly in consultation, not only with close cooperation with the Government of Greece, but also with the EU and of course with the friendly countries with which we cooperate”./ibna
