It has been a long time since a US Secretary of State has visited Romania, and the American ambassador in Bucharest says he is now making all the diligences in order to change this. U.S. ambassador Hans Klemm today announced that he would prompt on every occasion Secretary of State John Kerry to visit Romania.
In a meeting with several Romanian journalists, Klemm also expressed his wish that Romanian prime minister Dacian Ciolos would soon pay an official visit to Washington.
There is high optimism about some high-level bilateral meetings in 2016, according to the American diplomat who has been in post in Romania since last summer. Yet he mentioned that there was no schedule drafted for these visits.
The latest high profile US official to visit Romania was Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland. No Secretary of State has been In Romania since Condoleezza Rice in 2005.
