Over 675 delegates have given their support to Ahmeti to lead the party for another 4 years.
In his speech, Ahmeti said that his focus will be to advance with issues relating to Albanians in FYR Macedonia, fast integration in the NATO and EU through the solution of the name dispute, development and harmonization of cross ethnic relations and economic development.
Ahmeti underlined that the priorities for the next 6 months will be the accession of the country in the NATO and the preservation of the recommendation for the opening of negotiations for EU accession.
The congress continues its proceedings behind closed doors, where it’s expected to elect the steering committee of the party. The congress will also produce the names of ministers who will be part of the new government cabinet.
BDI is the Albanian party which came out of the ranks of the National Liberation Army from the conflict of 2001 in FYR Macedonia. Since 2002, this party has continuously won elections among the Albanian camp and also won the April 27 elections.
