The Albanian minister of Interior, Fatmir Xhafaj has handed his resignation from this post today. The news was announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama through a post on Twitter. Meanwhile, general Sander Lleshi has been appointed as new minister of Interior.
“I accepted minister Xhafaj’s resignation, which I would like to thank about his precious contribution. General Sander Lleshi will bring new energies as minister of Interior”, Rama writes on Twitter.
Meanwhile, the official motive for Xhafaj’s resignation has not yet become public, but let us recall that in the recent months he has been accused by the opposition for supporting his brother in the traffic of narcotics. This situation is closely linked to the so called “Babale” audio recording, where Albert Velia claims that he’s talking to the minister’s brother, but these accusations have been rejected by both Xhafaj and PM Rama. /ibna/
