Albanian president holds a telephone conversation with Papoulias

President of Albania, Bujar Nishani has held a telephone conversation with the President of Greece, Karolos Papoulias, the country of whom chaired the EU presidency in the first 6 months of the year.

The two presidents talked about the process of the integration of Albania. Nishani said that Greece played an important role in the decision to grant Albania the EU candidate status.

President Papoulias said that he was happy about the fact that the promise made at the end of last year in Tirana for a stronger engagement of the government during the Greek EU chairmanship, was fulfilled.

Part of the conversation was also the demarcation of sea areas. Papoulias said that he was hopeful that bilateral issues will continue to be addressed, including the agreement for the demarcation of continental shelf and other sea areas.

In this point, President Nishani said that he hoped that the demarcation of sea areas would be resolved in full respect and compliance of European and international standards. /ibna/
