Albanian government expels Russian diplomats

The Albanian government has decided to expel from the country two Russian diplomats.

The decision was announced today by the minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania, Ditmir Bushati, IBNA reports, quoting sources from the Foreign Ministry.

Today, Mr. Bushati is also understood to have summoned in his office the Russian ambassador in our country, Alexander Karpushin. The Albanian chief of diplomacy has also communicated to the ambassador the verbal note where the two Russian diplomats are declared persona non grata, as their activity, according to the Foreign Ministry, is not in line with their diplomatic status.

“Ambassador Karpushin was communicated the verbal note which declared the two Russian diplomats as persona non grata, because their activity does not comply with their diplomatic status”, sources from the Foreign Ministry said.

Earlier, during the meeting of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, PM Edi Rama also announced the expulsion of the Russian diplomats, as they had acted against Albanian national interests.

Neither Rama, nor Bushati did not provide concrete details about the motives. /
