Albanian Ministry of Justice has demanded from member countries of the Council of Europe and United States of America, information on all Albanian nationals with criminal records.
An official letter has been sent to all of these countries to offer Albania all the information available in relation to the criminal records of all Albanian citizens, which have been registered in the judicial system of these countries.
The request which has been sent through the diplomatic corps, comes in the framework of decriminalization. Assistance has also been demanded from the American Department of Justice.
The information which will be secured, aims at improving the data base of criminal records, the updating and protection of these data and the increase of public confidence in the activity of state institutions, independent institutions or public administration.
All of this information will be collected in a data base, which will identify all Albanian citizens who have been tried or are being tried in the respective states for different criminal or administrative reasons.
The Ministry of Justice says that it bases its incentive on article 22 of the “European Convention for Mutual Legal Aid in Criminal Cases. /ibna/
