Albania: Xhaçka and Peleshi support NATO’s withdrawal from Afghanistan

The Albanian Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, and the Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi, participated in the teleconference of the extraordinary meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense of the NATO countries, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Secretary of Defense in the United States, which focused on Afghanistan and the continuation of the NATO support mission.

Minister Xhaçka praised the decision of the current US government not to withdraw unilaterally from Afghanistan, but to do so in full consultation with NATO countries.

“Albania fully supports the decision proposed by the American friends and is ready to withdraw all its troops from Afghanistan, according to the timetable set by NATO. In this world full of threats, we can not face them alone and I believe that from now on, the Alliance will emerge stronger and more united, with more goals, energy and ideas, to guarantee our collective security”, Xhaçka pointed out.

Albanian Foreign Minister Xhaçka and Minister Peleshi assessed that this political process of peace negotiations in Afghanistan will produce a negotiated solution, which will bring lasting peace and full respect for human rights for the people of Afghanistan.

Peleshi, meanwhile, after the announcement of the decision, expressed pride in Albania’s continued political and military support since 2002 in the joint efforts in Afghanistan.

“Proud of the contribution and sacrifices of the Armed Forces. Today is the day to remember the martyr of the homeland, Captain Feti Vogli”, Peleshi stressed./ibna
