The granting of the EU candidate member status must not lead to complacency and passiveness, suggests the president of Republic, Bujar Nishani.
In a reception that Nishani hosted at the House of Brigades, (photo), he offered several advices to the ambassadors of Albania in the world who were present.
Initially, he reminded them that “you are ambassadors of an EU candidate country and a NATO member country” and added:
“Albania is now an EU candidate member country, a well deserved achievement thanks to the work done throughout the years by us all. This achievement must not lead us to complacency or passiveness. On the contrary, it encourages us to be more focused on addressing the priorities identified by the European Commission and which were certified by the highest level of European decision making”, said the president.
He called for the accession negotiations to be launched as soon as possible: “We must launch as soon as possible the EU accession negotiations, having been assured by president Van Rompuy and president Barroso during his visit to Tirana, that once the tasks are met, nobody can uses the thesis that the EU is tired of its enlargement, because the EU showed last week that it will keep its promise for keeping its doors open for Albania”, suggested Nishani. /ibna/
