The Albanian national football team managed to defeat Portugal last night in the first qualifying match of the European football championship which will be held in France in 2016. Albania is in group A.
It was the goal scored by Bekim Balaj on the 52nd minute which gave the red and blacks a lead.
The match was played in the Portugese city of Aveiro.
The home team played without their main player, Christiano Ronaldo.
The match saw very few chances by both teams. Nevertheless, the red and blacks seemed to be more insisting in scoring.
Balaj’s goal was considered by experts as one of the most beautiful ones of the recent times. The goal came during a well organized attack by Roshi, which after crossing the ball from the right, found Balaj, who placed the ball on the net of the opposing team.
With this victory, Albania won three points, thus leading the group with Denmark, which won against Armenia.
The Albanian national team is led by Gianni De Biasi. Many people hope that De Biasi will be able to take Albania in the finals of France 2016 in two years time.
Albania has never participated in the European or world football finals. /ibna/
