Albania will soon host the meeting of the ministers of Agriculture of the countries of the Mediterranean in Tirana dubbed “Agriculture as an alternative to emigration”.

Minister of Agriculture, Edmond Panariti said after the meeting with his French counterpart, Stephane Le Foll in Paris that this summit will demand the EU to increase its financial support for this sector.

Panariti also had an official meeting with the Federal Secretary of Agriculture of the Swiss Confederation, Bernard Lehmann.

The main topic of these talks was the issue of the standards of the quality of wheat and flour.

Agriculture is one of the main branches of the Albanian economy and it employs the majority of the Albanian population.

In the recent years, many people have left to other countries by causing a lack of labor force.

Albanian authorities are hoping that the growth of investments in agriculture and other policies that will assist rural areas, will boost production and as a result, increase incomes.

Last year, several agricultural areas saw encouraging results, by making many people see agriculture as a serious alternative of employment.

Thus, in Fier, there has been a growth of investments in the cultivation of strawberries, with the use of new technologies.

Albanian agriculture has had a real impact in the growth of exports in the region, but also toward the EU countries.

The aim of the Albanian authorities is for “Made in Albania” brand to be certified and become credible internationally. /ibna/
