Leader of Albanian opposition, Lulzim Basha appeared at Tirana District Attorney’s Office today to testify in relation to the payments made by the Democratic Party in the 2017 election campaign to lobbying firms in the US.
After being questioned by prosecutors of this case, this office issued a press release, offering details about the inquiry in question. According to investigators, the Democratic Party has only declared 25 thousand USD instead of 650 thousand USD.
“This investigation shows that there’s a considerable difference between the official amount which has been declared and the amount that has been paid by the Democratic Party. This party has only declared 25 thousand USD, while concealing the amount of 650 thousand USD”, the statement released by the Tirana District Attorney’s Office says.
According to prosecutors, this party has made two payments amounting to 650 thousand USD to lobbying firms in the US, for which, the Democratic Party has failed to report them as the law requires it. One of these payments has been made by a foreign company called “Biniatta Trade”, based in the UK and owned by a Russian national. /ibna/
