Leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha has received today the delegation of the Austrian government led by the Foreign Minister of this country, Sebastian Kurz and Minister of Justice, Wolfgang Brandstetter.
Thanking Austria for the contribution given during these years to Albania in the process of European integration, Mr. Basha demanded to Mr. Kurz the intensification of Austrian engagement on next week’s decision.
Leader of the Democratic Party said that Albania has met all the criteria needed to be granted the EU candidate status.
Basha briefed Mr. Kurz with what he considered to be as negative developments in the country which go against the criteria of Copenhagen and which have replaced the rule of law by government arbitrariness, with the refusal of the government to obey court orders, with massive dismissals in the administration without legal motives and problematic appointments of people with criminal convictions in key positions, which has had an impact on the deterioration of law and order in the country.
Leader of the Democratic Party reiterated to the Austrian foreign minister the positioning of the opposition for unconditional support toward the country’s EU candidate status which will be decided next week by European leaders. /ibna/
