Albanian Deputy Foreign Minister Gent Cakaj posted on his Facebook page that he had applied for Kosovo’s accession to the Council of Europe at the 130th Ministerial Meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the European Council today.
“Today, at the virtual meeting of the 130th Ministerial Session of the Committee of Ministers, among other things, we clearly submitted the application for the accession of the Republic of Kosovo to the Council of Europe!
One thing is for sure: Support for the accession of the Republic of Kosovo to the Council of Europe is not only historically just and politically sensible, but also a direct contribution to the strengthening of democracy, the rule of law and fundamental rights and freedoms in Europe”, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Albania Gent Cakaj posted on Facebook
The Albanian official’s initiative is in stark contrast to the Agreement signed in Washington between Serbia and Kosovo, in which Pristina pledged not to call for accession to join international organizations for one year. /ibna
