“If we have to, we will do in Cyprus what we did in 1974″
In his speech during the swearing-in of Turkish officers, Turkey’s Defence Minister Hulusi Akar sent harsh messages towards the Greek and Cypriot side.
“In the eastern Mediterranean, the Aegean and in Cyprus, our operations proceed steadily; and we cannot and will not back down from our rights. No one should test our strength, and you should not get your calculations wrong.
On the Cyprus issue we keep the same position as in 1974. No one should doubt that anything that needed to be done then could very much so be done now if needed”, Akar commented./ibna
