Akar: "Provocations in the Aegean and Cyprus will bring about a heavy price"
Defence Minister of Turkey Hulusi Akar issued a statement in response to the resent statements of the Chief of General Staff of Greece, Evangelos Apostolakis.

"We will not allow any fait accompli in the Aegean, in Cyprus, that will be against the Turkish Republic and the 'Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus'. No decision, no action taken without us, will have any force and no hope of surviving. We are in favor of peace, friendship and stability. We are in favor of people living here in prosperity and peace. On the other hand, however, everyone must know that whatever the price is, we are not backing down from our rights. They have to collect their minds to stay away from provocations, otherwise they will have a heavy price to pay. We have taken every kind of measure we have made every kind of preparation. Everything that needs to be done defend the rights of our people will be done when and where it needs to be done. The provocations near our coasts, the Aegean, the Mediterranean and Cyprus will not have any effect, they should not make any erroneous calculations. They will not get anywhere and will not win anything. Everyone must gather their minds, not to cause adventures. This is our most sincere advice to our interlocutors. Increasing tension does not help anyone. In the Aegean and in the Mediterranean, everyone should avoid increasing tension and this is in favor of our countries".

Evangelos Apostolakis, in an interview with the journalists, had stated that "if the Turks board a rocky island, we will level it"./IBNA
