Leader of the Democratic Union for Integration, Ali Ahmeti has received today the ambassador of Greece to FYROM, Haris Lalakos.
Ahmeti and ambassador Lalakos discussed on the relations between Skopje and Athens, developments in the Western Balkan region and European Atlantic integration.
Ahmeti said that this meeting discussed the importance of the European and Atlantic integration for FYROM and demanded a bigger engagement of the international community in order for Skopje and Athens to meet and reach a compromise.
“Compromise is necessary and it serves the best interest of both countries, but also the region, because only a region integrated in European Atlantic structures secures sustainable peace, stability and economic development”, said Ahmeti.
The Greek ambassador said that Greece’s foreign policy is based on the integration of neighboring countries in the NATO and EU and this principle remains unchanged.
“In order for this to be achieved, the name dispute must be resolved. We discussed the need to create a climate of trust between neighboring countries through a constructive approach and mature declarations that facilitate dialogue between Athens and Skopje”, said Lalakos. The two interlocutors also talked about the cross ethnic relations in the country and the progress report. /ibna/
