Tirana, 4 February 2016/Independent Balkan News Agency
Albanian authorities and those of the international “Mother Teresa” airport in Tirana, have struck a deal based on which the exclusivity of this airport is reduced from 250 km into a radius of 100 km for international flights.
Minister of Economy, Arben Ahmetaj confirms that the negotiations have been successfully been finalized. “The file has been taken to the concessionary’s board of directors. The exclusivity will be limited to a radius of 100 km. We are expecting offers for the construction of local airports”, Ahmeti declared in front of the parliamentary committee for production activities.
This is not the first time that Albanian authorities announce such news. Five months ago it was declared that the limitation of exclusivity for “Mother Teresa” airport was just a matter of days.
It is hoped that the lifting of exclusivity for international airports, to enable the functioning of other local airports in Albania, especially that of Kukes and then that of Vlora and other airports which are expected to be built.
This is also expected to see a drop in the cost of airlines which will operate in the Albanian space and as a result, a drop in the price of tickets for travelers. /ibna/
