Diplomatic circles in Berlin reconfirm the fact that France is not willing to discuss the issue of EU enlargement until after EU parliament elections which will take place at the end of May.
However, German chancellor Angel Merkel will not be able to take any decisions without Bundestag’s approval and sources within CDU/CSU told Deutsche Welle that the decision regarding the opening of accession talks for Albania may be postponed until September instead of June.
Meanwhile, PM Edi Rama yesterday held a meeting with German chancellor, Angela Merkel on the sidelines of the Berlin Summit that was hosted by the latter and French president, Emmanuel Macron.
According to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s office, the meeting discussed the judicial reform and Albania’s integration in the European Union. During the course of this meeting, PM Edi Rama also spoke about the expectations of the Albanian government regarding the report that the European Commission is expected to publish at the end of May.
The meeting also discussed regional topics and the necessity for Kosovo and Serbia to resume dialogue and fully normalize their relations. /ibna/
