
The upward trend of Greek exports continued at an impressive rate in June according to the Greek Statistical Authority (ELSTAT). Their total value stood at € 3,005.3 million compared to EUR 2,408.0 million in the same month of 2017, showing an increase of 24.8%. Excluding petroleum products, it increased by € 277.5 million (+ 15.5%) and excluding oil and ships by €209.4 million (+ 11.8%).
However, the volume of imports amounted to € 4,975.7 million in June, compared to € 3,913.5 million in the same month last year, recording an increase of 27.1%. Excluding petroleum products, an increase of € 348.8 million (+ 11.2%) was recorded, while without oil and ships an increase of € 361.8 million (+ 12.0%).
Following these developments, the trade deficit widened to € 1,970.4 million in June from € 1,505.5 million in June 2017 (+ 30.9%). Excluding petroleum products, it increased by € 71.3 million (+ 5.4%), while the corresponding change without oil and ships increased by € 152.4 million (+ 12.3%).
The total value of exports during the period January – June 2018 amounted to € 16,437.0 million versus € 14,211.3 million during the same period of 2017, showing an increase of 15.7%. Excluding petroleum products, an increase of € 1,292.3 million, or 13.2%, excluding oil and ships, increased by € 1,234.1 million, or 12.7%.
The total value of imports in the period January to June 2018 amounted to € 26,964.4 million compared to € 25,796.2 million in the same period of 2017, showing an increase of 4.5%. The corresponding change without oil was reduced by € 324.8 million, or 1.6%. and the corresponding change without oil and ships increased by € 1,404.9 million, or 8.0%.
The trade deficit for the period January – June 2018 amounted to € 10,527.4 million compared to € 11,584.9 million in the same period of 2017, showing a 9.1% decrease in euros.
