99.3% of businesses in Kosovo are small

The majority of businesses in Kosovo are small. This was the conclusion of the latest study of “Open Data Albania”, which has used data obtained by the Register of Statistics for Businesses in Kosovo.

According to the study, in 2013 Kosovo had 9, 358 micro enterprises, 55 small sized enterprises, 7 medium sized enterprises and 1 large sized enterprise.

“Based on size, enterprises in Kosovo are classified in micro enterprises, which have 1 to 9 employees, small sized enterprises which have 10 to 49 employees, medium sized enterprises which have 50 to 249 employees and large sized enterprises with more than 250 employees”, reads the statement issued by this organization.

According to the study, in 2013, 99.3% of enterprises have 1 to 9 employees.

The number of micro enterprises from 2010 until 2012 has been growing, in order to register a fall in 2013 with 137 fewer micro enterprises than in 2012.

Out of the total number of enterprises, in 2013, trade was the preferred activity with 2,849 active enterprises out of 9,421.

Other sectors in the Republic of Kosovo are: “Real estate, business rentals” with 1,056 enterprises, “Industry” with 942 enterprises, “Construction” with 932 enterprises, “Hotels and restaurants” with 909 enterprises, etc. /ibna/
