Internet in Romania has strangely featured on the US presidential elections agenda this month, when democrat Bernie Sanders tweeted that “even people in Bucharest, Romania, have faster Internet than in most of the US”. But Internet access and its speed really are important issues for foreigners traveling to Romania, a recent analysis shows. About 85% of Romanian hotels provide their guests with free Internet access. It’s the luxury hotels that are not as generous. Many of them charge 10 to 30 euros per day for Wi-Fi. Ploiesti, Bucharest, Timisoara, Galati, Constanta and Cluj-Napoca are the main cities on the map of business tourism that provide the best connection to the Internet via Wi-Fi, according to the survey operated by an online tourism agency. And 80% of the foreign tourists coming to Romania book packages with free Internet access.
As to Romanians who travel abroad, they mainly choose hotels that provide free Internet connection. Active young people with an average age of 40 are mostly “addicted” to the web services. They ask for permanent connection, for both personal and professional purposes.
