The Ministry of Environment and Energy is hosting the 1st Energy Ministerial Conference with the participation of Greece, Cyprus, Israel and the US at the Hilton Hotel on Wednesday, August 7.
During the conference, the Minister of Environment and Energy, Kostis Hatzidakis, will welcome Cyprus’ Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, George Lakkotrypis, the Israeli Minister of Energy and Water Yuval Steinitz, as well as the US State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Energy Commissioner Francis Fannon.
The Energy Ministerial Conference aims to identify potential energy cooperation areas of interest to all four States participating in the meeting, while a working group of senior political and service officials is expected to be set up.
This team will identify specific projects per each thematic area of cooperation, and propose concrete support measures on a quadrilateral level.
Procedures are also expected to take place during the conference, in order for the intergovernmental agreement on the East Med gas pipeline to be given substantial impetus.
As the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy comments in its statement, this is the first time a US government participates in a governmental conference on energy issues, whereas it is especially important the conference takes place in Athens./ibna
