The UK-incorporated multinational professional services network, Deloitte published a recent study according to which it is less expensive to fire Romanian staff (in Romania) “for fault of their own or for economic reasons” than elsewhere in Europe, explains Romania Insider, citing the study.
Due to the fact that the local Labour Code makes no distinction on seniority, the firing cost remains uninfluenced by it.
Partner and coordinator for labour law with Reff & Asociaţii, Florentina Munteanu said that, “Many employers have regulated massive layoffs through collective labour contracts, and, in our experience, severance packages do take into account seniority. However, such deals have a limited applicability, so they are not a general practice for the entire market.”
Another specialist of the field who works with Deloitte Romania, Raluca Bontas spoke of the calculation basis, clarifying that it is one more factor that has control over the lower firing costs in the country…. / IBNA
