This year the number of foreign emigrants that sought asylum in FYR Macedonia was 1100.

These data were published in a report of UNHC, which has followed the massive migration from Africa and Asia, a part of which have used FYROM as a transit country from Greece to continue to Serbia and EU countries.

Muamed Arifi, UNHCR representative in Skopje, said that in cooperation with domestic institutions, this organization is following the arrival of foreign emigrants and their mission is committed in offering care for these emigrants.

“In cooperation with domestic institutions, UNHCR is trying to find ways to cope with the situation and the high numbers of foreign emigrants. During this year, we’ve had over 1100 foreign asylum seekers mainly from Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Pakistan, etc”, said Arifi.

According to him, the number of foreign emigrants that enter the territory of FYROM is even higher, because the majority of them use illegal routes. UNHCR believes that international community led by UNO is obliged to help people who come from countries of conflicts and wars. /ibna/
