FYROM has around 11 thousand registered users of narcotic substances.
According to the statistics of the Institute for Public Health in FYR Macedonia, there are around 10.300-10.900 people who use different types of drugs. The majority of them use drugs through injection.
“HOPS” non government association has launched criticism about the approach and care shown for users of narcotic substances. According to this organization, only 15% of users are under medical treatment.
Concerns have also been shown about the failure of programs for the rehabilitation of these categories of people, the majority of which are young, back into the society. These programs are only being implemented in four cities of FYROM.
According to the data received by centers for the prevention and treatment of persons who have used drugs in the past three years, there’s no person under the age of 18 who is being treated with methadone and buprenorphine. /ibna/
