10 million Euros worth of cocaine has been discovered by Albanian police in Elbasan, during an operation name coded “Xibraku”, which led to the discovery of a drug lab in the village of Xibrake in Elbasan.

Following an inquest which lasted several months and which involved police of Tirana, Elbasan, Durres and German police, authorities managed to identify the members of this group and arrest 11 of them. Police also seized 115 kg of cocaine. Authorities talk about a structured group which handled the traffic of narcotics from Latin America to the Balkan and then to Western Europe.

This criminal ring obtained narcotic substances, which then underwent a process of processing and extraction of pure cocaine, with the aim of using it in the domestic and international market.

The operation led to the seizure of 115 kg of cocaine, 359 thousand Euros and 4100 USD, five credit cards and a cheque worth 4500 USD along with six weapons of different types.

One of the 11 people who were arrested was Ermal Ilir Hoxha, 40 years of age, from Tirana, nephew of the former communist dictator, Enver Hoxha, who led the country for 45 years.

Among the arrested people were also two citizens from Columbia, hired by the Albanian criminal gang for the preparation of the cocaine and to prepare it for the market in a very “professional” way.

According to law enforcement forces, the value of the seized cocaine in the black market was 10 million Euros.

Currently, authorities are also investigating to identify the criminal assets of the members of this criminal ring.

Albanian opposition expresses its concern about the strong narcotics seized in Elbasan

Albanian opposition has expressed its concern about the narcotic substances sized in the cocaine lab, considering it as a failure of PM Edi Rama in the fight against narcotics.

General Secretary of DP, Arben Ristani said that the opposition is very worried because according to him, with the arrival of Edi Rama in power, Albania is turning into a European Columbia.

“The construction of a drug lab which processed cocaine, near Tirana, is a shocking fact which shows the failure of the government in the fight against narcotics. Such well organized activity could not have happened if the government was doing its job and fighting traffic of drugs. The cocaine lab shows that all the imaginary successes of the minister of Interior, who up until few days ago showed off that Albania no longer was a country where drug was produced, were mere lies”, declared Ristani.

The democrat MP also said that the arrest of the authors and the capture of cocaine from a trusted group of European partners within Albanian police, is in fact a failure of Edi Rama and his government.

Former PM Berisha: Drug ring led by Enver Hoxha’s nephew is dismantled

Former PM, Sali Berisha, declares that Interpol and Europol dismantled a drug ring led by former dictator Enver Hoxha’s nephew.

Berisha says that Interpol, Europol and Prosecution of Serious Crime and State Police hit a large Albanian-Colombian drug network led by dictator Enver Hoxha’s nephew, the 39 year old Ermal Hoxha, known for his close ties with senior SP officials and for his close family ties with Edi Rama.

Former PM Berisha says that Ermal Hoxha is known as the sponsor of several electoral campaigns of the SP and other activities of this party. As far as PM Rama’s reaction is concerned, Berisha says that he rushed into attacking by saying: “I hope the opposition will not be upset by this success of the police”. According to him, the opposition is his problem.

The former PM says that with the arrival of Rama in power, Columbia also “arrived” in Albania and for the first time in the history of the country, international media labeled Albania as a European Colombia in several occasions. He adds “This is unfortunately unfair!”

Former head of the government called on the prosecution to investigate and arrest ever member of the drug ring.

Tahiri: This was the biggest operation after Lazarat

Minister of Interior, Saimir Tahiri, declared from the drug lab where the amount of 100 kg of cocaine was seized in Elbasan, that yesterday’s operation was the biggest one after the one in Lazarat and Dukagjin.

In a press conference delivered in the premises of the lab, the minister considered the operation as a historical operation for State Police. He said that police has contributed in seizing the biggest amount of cocaine in the history of Albania and the region.

“It’s the biggest and most modern laboratory ever seized in Albania and the Balkan. I’d like to thank heads of the State Police and all officers who were involved in achieving these excellent results. It’s an investigation that shows the professionalism of police officers in the fight against crime and organized crime, criminal groups and traffic of narcotics. The results show us the success of the State Police against strong narcotics. They show us the integrity and show us that ties between the underworld and State Police have been cut”, said Tahiri.

The minister said that the investigation will continue to discover criminal assets generated by this criminal activity.

Ermal Hoxha’s parents: He was arrested to discredit Enver’s name

Ermal Hoxha’s parents, Ilir and Teuta Hoxha have reacted today against the arrest of their son, considering it as an action to discredit the name of Enver Hoxha.

“Something like that was expected to happen, when Enver Hoxha was insulted by all political parties on the 70th anniversary of liberation”, say the parents of Ermal Hoxha.

They say that four years ago, police wanted to implicate their other son, by accusing him of participation in an armed conflict, while at the time when the incident happened, he was with his parents and other 30 guests in a family party.

Ilir and Teuta said that Ermal was in Durres at the home of his wife’s parents. /ibna/
