Registered unemployed down 7,9% in February
 

The number of unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices decreased by 3.635 or 7,9% in February 2017, compared to the same period last year.

According to a press release by the Statistical Service of Cyprus the unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of February 2017, reached 42.326 persons, compared to 45.961 in February 2016. This is the lowest level since February 2013.

Based on the seasonally adjusted data that show the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for February 2017 decreased to 37.220 persons in comparison to 37.701 in the previous month. This is the lowest level since September 2012.

The decrease was mainly observed in the sectors of construction (a decrease of 1.251 unemployed persons), public administration (a decrease of 951), manufacturing (a decrease of 581), trade (a decrease of 545), transportation (a decrease of 337), education (a decrease of 159) and to newcomers in the labour market (a decrease of 112)./IBNA
