The principle of good neighboring relations continues to be an important criterion in the process of the integration of the countries of the region in the European Union.

The EU Enlargement Commissioner, Johannes Hahn declared in the Hellenic Foundation for Foreign and European Policy that the countries of Western Balkans must address all open contests.

Hahn said that the EU will not accept countries which have pending issues with the neighbors.

“2018 will be an important year and an opportunity to develop the process of the accession of Western Balkans. We don’t want problems among the neighbors. This is a lesson from the past”, Hahn declared.

Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj has also demanded from countries of the region to solve all pending issues that exist between them.

Hoxhaj has also mentioned that the accession of the countries of Western Balkans should be made in the form of a package, as it was the case with Eastern European countries in 2004.

Professor of European Law, Muhamer Pajaziti says that EU member countries and not interested to bear the problems of the region on their shoulders.

“Are EU citizens ready to accept Western Balkans as it is where there are so many bilateral contests? What does it have to gain from accepting them? Nothing”, Pajaziti says. /balkaneu.com/
