Montenegro allocates to political parties the largest fund ever allocated in the countries of the region
Podgorica, August 28, 2013

Montenegro is the only country in the region which allocates to political parties 0.5% of the state budget. This is the largest sum given to political forces in the Balkan and other European countries.

The Minister of Finances of Montenegro, Radoje Zugic (photo), speaking in parliament about the state budget and allocation of funds, claimed that 0.5% of the money will go to political forces in the country.

He admitted that this is the largest amount that a state allocates to parties and said that nowhere else in the Balkan is given so much money to fund political parties.

Reactions have been coming about this by intellectuals. Professor doctor Georgie Blazic says that doing politics in Montenegro is a lucrative profession.

“In Montenegro, politics is a lucrative business for persons who become part of political parties. This happens bearing in mind the difficult economic and social situation, therefore I believe that the allocation of such considerable amounts of money for political parties must be contested”, said professor Blazic.

“If we bear in mind the funds that Montenegro allocates for political parties and the situation in the state, then a question naturally arises: Is this a reasonable action and should the funding of political parties be realized in such manner”, declared Dr. Blazic. /ibna/
