HURS says Croatia fails to create conditions for long-term growth

The Croatian Association of Workers' Trade Unions (HURS) warned on Thursday that a report which the European Commission released on Wednesday showed that Croatia had failed to create conditions for a long-term economic growth, adding that the situation in the Podravka food company suggested the continuation of the trend of shutting down jobs in the production sector.

The European Commission's Winter Package report confirms that in order to achieve a stable economic growth and social progress it is not enough to just sit idly by and wait for the global movements to pull Croatia out of the negative trends. This is why, although we are recording a growth which until recently we could have only hoped for, without changing priorities of Croatia's policy we will have a hard time securing economic and financial stability, HURS said.

HURS also said that the situation in Podravka painted a perfect picture of Croatia's structural problems -- a food giant with products placed on all continents found itself in a management crisis because of politics./IBNA
