The nine romanian villages in Prahova county are to be connected to the gas distribution system through a €3.5 million pipe. The romanian gas transport company Transgaz has decided on this investment with the ultimate goal of creating the infrastructure for the development of a gas network in the northern part of Prahiva, in the mountain resort area of Cheia – Maneciu.

At present, only 64% of the county's population, corresponding to 59 of the 104 localities,  are connected to natural gas, with the local authorities planning to bring the number to 71% by 2016.

Local authorities claim that gas connection is vital for the attraction of investments in the area, since investors choose to set up production units to villages that have gas supply, because the production costs are significantly lower. The most recent example is the investor who wants to open a canned products manufacturing unit in the village of Balta and is waiting for the village to be connected to a gas supply before doing so.
