Concrete projects in the domain of energy between FYROM and Albania
Skopje, November 27, 2013

Cooperation in the domain of energy and mines, especially in the realization of the project for the construction of the 400 kilo volt inter connection line between Albania and FYROM, the link between Elbasan and Manastir were the topics discussed in today's meeting in Skopje between the Minister of Economy, Valon Saracini and the Minister of Energy and Industry of the Republic of Albania, Damian Gjiknuri.

"The construction of the power line linking Manastir to Elbasan is significant for energy, but also for the economic situation in Macedonia.

As far as the project is concerned, we have carried out the feasibility study and the environmental study. Soon we are expected to examine the technical documentation for which a grant of 1 million Euros has been secured by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. We're holding the final negotiations to secure a loan amounting to 45 million Euros, necessary for the realization of this project by us", declared minister Valon Saracini.

He underlined that until 2015, all administrative procedures must be finalized, while the line will be built until 2017.

Minister Saracini has presented 80 new locations for the construction of new hydro power plants in FYROM, for which there are Albanian companies interested to invest, while there have also been talks for the cooperation in the mining sector.

Albanian Minister of Energy and Industry said that a work group has been established by the two ministries to examine cooperation and progress in the domain of economy and energy. This group will assess the joint achievements in the next year's meetings which will be held in February in Albania.

"We discussed on the project in the Valley of Lukova which consists on the construction of a water collector in the territory of Macedonia. By not wanting to leave room for speculation, we decided to have technical persons from both sides, who will work in the project and will agree in order for there not to have unclear elements over the outpouring of waters. They must identify the impact of the projects for the two countries", said minister Gjiknuri.

Gjiknuri added that they have agreed to sign a memorandum of cooperation in the domain of energy in the next meeting in Tirana. /ibna/
