Romania’s number one tennis player Simona Halep keeps up her good form and strong tennis at the US Open. Plus, she seems to have Lady Fortune at her side for the next rounds.

The WTA number 2 is looking at a pretty favourable route for the matches to come, taking advantage of some surprise early exits, such as Lucie Safarova, Alize Cornet or Timea Bacsinszky.

In the second round, Halep will play against WTA’s number 104, Kateryna Bondarenko. Should she go through the Ukrainian, Halep will face either Kurumi Nara (82 WTA) or Shelby Rogers (154 WTA). Afterwards, the Romanian could meet Germany’s Sabine Lisicki, a difficult opponent who is number 24 WTA, but whom Halep defeated in 3 of their 4 meetings on the court. The quarterfinal could bring a confrontation between Simona Halep and Angelique Kerber (11 WTA). The good news for the Romanian is that she beat the German player in all of their 3 matches.

A semi-final between Simona Halep and Dane Caroline Wozsniacki would be both spectacular and balanced, the two players having shared victories at their previous 4 meetings. If Halep defeats the former number 1 and there are no huge surprises on the other section of the draw, the US Open final will bring together WTA’s number 1 and 2 players at the moment: Simona Halep and Serena Williams.

"In order to beat Serena, I must be more agressive and return the ball with even more power. She is favourite for winning this tournament. If I won’t make it to the final, I do hope she wins”, Halep said.
