Bulgaria's January - May 2018 exports up two per cent year-on-year

In the period January - May 2018 the value of all the goods exported from Bulgaria amounted to 20 934.9 million leva and in comparison with the same period of 2017, increased by two per cent, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on July 12.

In May 2018, Bulgaria's total exports added up to 4 301.2 million leva and decreased by 3.5 per cent compared to May 2017.

The total value of all the goods imported into Bulgaria in January - May 2018 amounted to 24 896.9 million leva (at CIF prices), or 5.5 per cent more than January - May 2017. In May 2018, total imports increased by 4.4 per cent compared May 2017 and added up to 5 163.4 million leva.

Bulgaria's total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was negative in the period January - May 2018 and amounted to 3 962.0 million leva.

At FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) in the period January - May 2018 the total foreign trade balance was also negative and added up to 2 378.4 million leva.

In May 2018, the total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was negative and added up to 862.2 million leva. The trade balance at FOB/FOB prices was also negative and amounted to 565.0 million leva.

In the period January - May 2018, Bulgarian exports to third countries decreased by 16.5 per cent in comparison with the same period of 2017 and added up to 6 050.8 million leva.

The main trade partners of Bulgaria were Turkey, China, Serbia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, the United States and the Russian Federation which accounted for 53.4 per cent of the exports to non EU countries.

In May 2018, Bulgarian exports to third countries decreased by 19.7 per cent compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 1 276.4 million leva.

Bulgarian imports from third countries in the period January - May 2018 decreased by 1.6 per cent in comparison with the same period of 2017 and added up to 8 514.0 million leva (at CIF prices).

The largest amounts were reported for the goods imported from the Russian Federation, Turkey, China and Serbia (Annex, Table 3). In May 2018, Bulgarian imports from third countries increased by one per cent compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 1801.6 million leva, the NSI said.... / IBNA
